Breaking News: First MJ Statue in Russia Unveiled!

The first Russian Michael Jackson monument  was unveiled in Yekaterinburg last June 25th, 2011.

Members of the Russian fans club of Michael Jackson «INVINCIBLE» initiated the creation of the monument a year ago.

The statue was set up in the pedestrian Vainer’s Street and is made of bronze in the same style as the other sculptures in the alley. The statue is visibly taller than a person's height; it is a full body figure of the  King of Pop, in one of his iconic poses, with a hat pulled down over his bent head covering his face partially.

"Michael was a messenger and he was here to teach us."

Photographer David LaChappelle On Michael Jackson
By Brian, from IN REPAIR site

Everyone had a judgment about Michael Jackson, but I think Michael was a messenger and he was here to teach us. He was a really good friend of mine. When he was charged with pedophilia, he still lived his life with such dignity. Even when he was under the most horrible of times, he never lost it, he never freaked out. He just lived it out with dignity, and kindness, and talent.” – renowned photographer and personal friend of Michael Jackson, David LaChappelle
Here are some of the digital portraits that LaChappelle created in homage to Jackson after his death in 2009. They are part of a collection he calls “American Jesus.”

This Is Him (Part 1)

Here's an excerpt of the news article by Oumelkheir Djenaidi published  at France Today Magazine website on August 6, 2009;

SECKLER AND JACKSON

A FRENCH ARTIST SCULPTS AN AMERICAN LEGEND

... [ ]
"I stare at people when I walk down the street," the artist admits. For Seckler, 35, his eyes play as important a role in art as his hands. Since July 25, exactly a month after Michael Jackson's death, Seckler's eyes have been trained on roughly 50 photos of the star encircling his perch in front of the museum. "One photograph wouldn't allow me to recreate the third dimension," the artist explains. "[Jackson] also went through such a metamorphosis that it's difficult to capture him correctly. I have concentrated on the period when I think he was the most beautiful, between the albums Thriller and Bad."
Like many who come to watch him work, Seckler is an MJ fan. "I wanted to communicate with his fans," he says, "both tourists and Parisians. To create a representation of such an enormous public figure, I wanted to be in contact with the public." The artist adds: "I saw the King of Pop at the Parc des Princes in 1988. I had posters of him all over my room in the 80s."
... [ ]
In the meantime, every morning Mr. Seckler places his 40 kilo sculpture in front of the Centre Pompidou. He hopes to finish the piece by the end of this week, when it will be moved to Dorothy's Gallery for the exhibit "Art and Music, Tribute to Michael Jackson." Seckler says he will send photos of the piece to the Jackson family, and offer to make a version of the piece for them in bronze.

 Jean-Baptiste Seckler

And a big THANK YOU! to my dear friend Laura for sharing this video clip at her MJ page, "Michael Jackson: What About The Man" at facebook ;)

Here's another related clip of  Mr. Seckler working on the sculpture; I don't understand though what he was saying (in French), but nevertheless, it's still heartwarming to see him in action :)

The Magnificent Beautiful Portrait

“The Book,” a 50-by-40-inch painting by Australian artist Brett-Livingstone Strong of Jackson, shows Jackson sporting a red velvet jacket and clutching a journal.

“The Book” is said to be the only portrait Michael personally sat for during his lifetime. In 1990, in Los Angeles, CA the portrait was unveiled in the presence of Mr. Hiromichi Saeki who reportedly paid $2,100,000 for the original. Mr. Saeki was one of the most influential Japanese merchandisers and concert promoters of Michael Jackson. Michael is draped in a “Renaissance Effect” within this portrait and even deeper inside is standing, posing for Brett in a slightly earlier dimension of time.

"He couldn't have been nicer..."

Here's an  account from Mr. Rick Tulka, the man behind the beautiful artwork of  Moonwalker, The Coloring Book;

by Rick Tulka

Monday, 3 October 1988
Meadowlands Arena
East Rutherford, New Jersey

The drawing we are holding was one that Michael commissioned from me. He wanted me to draw him from his six videos, at that time. Unfortunately, the flash from the camera reflected on the drawing. The other drawing, behind, is another one I did of him, which he autographed for me.

Michael had hired me to do a children's coloring book based on his video "Moonwalker." This was during his "BAD" tour, and the height of his career. The project took about a year, because it took time for him to see what I was doing and get back with his comments on my drawings.

After he came back from the European leg of the tour, he was going to be in New Jersey. My wife and I got VIP tickets for the concert. At the arena, I was brought back to his large dressing room, with a smaller private dressing room for him. There were a lot of people milling around. All of a sudden, Michael came out of his dressing room, in his "BAD" outfit, buckles and belts. He shut the door and just stood there.

When Michael Jackson said he was very shy, he wasn't kidding. The look on his face, to me, was pure fear. I felt he was just looking around the room to find someone, anyone, he knew. After a couple of seconds, he walked into the crowd. This would be the only time I would meet him, and I figured I better do it. So, I walked up to him and tapped him on his shoulder. I thought to myself, "I am tapping Michael Jackson on his shoulder!" He turned to me, and since it was quite noisy I leaned to whisper in his ear, thinking "I am whispering into Michael Jackson's ear!!" I introduced myself and told him that I was the guy doing his coloring book. The second he knew who I was you would have thought we had known each other for years. He was gracious and extremely friendly. He told me that he was really liking the coloring book drawings that I was doing for him.

I brought him over to my drawings and he burst out laughing when he saw them. We chatted for a little bit and he couldn't have been nicer. Needless to say, it was one of the most exciting celebrity meetings I ever had.

"Art and music are timeless..."

closeup

Art and music are timeless. As it crosses cultural boundaries, whether in words or in images, art has the power to speak the dreams of a generation. This power must be cherished, shared, respected, and above all, used for worthwhile endeavors.  I believe creative genius has an inherent responsibility to use the gift to empower others to see their own gifts and to inspire them to their own greatness. If we were all to use our gifts, we could change the world and uplift the quality of life for all of us. This is the lofty vision of the true artist. It is a vision shared by Brett-Livingstone Strong and I, and it is the foundation of the Jackson-Strong Alliance. I am gratified to have affiliated with Brett Strong. He, like Michelangelo, is gifted as both sculptor and painter, and like that great Renaissance artist, is a dynamic visionary. The alliance we have formed will merge visual and performing art in a desire to inspire a better world."
